Analyzer Blank Count Subtraction Term Tool

Exposure-scaled blank subtraction retains signed corrected counts and does not infer detection or diagnostic limits.

Description

Scale blank by sample/blank exposure and subtract it from sampleCount.

Analyzer signals and research counts can require background correction and reference comparisons. A signed residual can describe the data without identifying its cause or establishing a valid clinical measurement.

Scale blank by sample/blank exposure and subtract it from sampleCount.

When to use this tool

Use Analyzer Blank Count Subtraction Term when you need one explicit analyzer signal or reference component.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter sampleCount, blankCount, sampleExposure, blankExposure. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read scaledBlank, correctedCount. Use the output convention below.

Require nonnegative sampleCount and blankCount and positive sampleExposure and blankExposure. Scale blank by sample/blank exposure and subtract it from sampleCount.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Exposure units must match and background rate is assumed transferable; correctedCount may be negative and no analyzer calibration or clinical meaning is inferred.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Review calibration, controls, exposure basis, uncertainty, and the complete laboratory interpretation.
