Description
Subtract background from observed and multiply by positive suppliedFactor.
Analyzer signals and research counts can require background correction and reference comparisons. A signed residual can describe the data without identifying its cause or establishing a valid clinical measurement.
Subtract background from observed and multiply by positive suppliedFactor.
When to use this tool
Use Analyzer Background Negative Gap when you need one explicit analyzer signal or reference component.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter observed, background, suppliedFactor. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read corrected, negative. Inspect negative before interpreting the associated values.
Subtract background from observed and multiply by positive suppliedFactor. Mark negative when observed is below background.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| observed | Observed | Required. Finite number. |
| background | Background | Required. Finite number. |
| suppliedFactor | Supplied Factor | Required. Finite number; strictly above 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| corrected | Corrected | Required. Finite number. |
| negative | Negative | Required. Boolean. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Signals share units and factor sets the output basis; a negative flag is arithmetic rather than a diagnosis, quality verdict, or instruction to clamp the result.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
