Travel Time Pick Precision Gap Tool

Calculate travel time pick precision gap from explicit caller-supplied inputs.

Description

Return interval width and both pick endpoints minus referencePick.

Travel-time and timing terms connect supplied distances, velocities, and interval references. Their units and propagation model determine the interpretation; one term does not solve a complete arrival-time or subsurface problem.

Return interval width and both pick endpoints minus referencePick.

When to use this tool

Use Travel Time Pick Precision Gap when you need a local time or delay calculation under the supplied model.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter earliestPick, latestPick, referencePick. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read width, earliestResidual, latestResidual. Use the output convention below.

Require latestPick at least earliestPick. Return interval width and both pick endpoints minus referencePick.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Times share units and origin; these bounds reflect supplied precision rather than a confidence interval, validated arrival identification, or a travel-time model.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Analyze the full travel path, acquisition timing, and velocity model for interpretation. Verify clock references, units, and layer assumptions before summing local timing terms.
