Seismic Pick Time Precision Budget Tool

Additive worst-case supplied pick-time envelope, not a statistical confidence interval or event location.

Loading tool…

Description

Add half the sample interval and both halfwidths and place symmetric bounds around pickedTime.

Travel-time and timing terms connect supplied distances, velocities, and interval references. Their units and propagation model determine the interpretation; one term does not solve a complete arrival-time or subsurface problem.

Add half the sample interval and both halfwidths and place symmetric bounds around pickedTime.

When to use this tool

Use Seismic Pick Time Precision Budget when you need a local time or delay calculation under the supplied model.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter pickedTime, sampleInterval, analystHalfwidth, additionalHalfwidth. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read lower, upper, totalHalfwidth. Use the output convention below.

Require nonnegative sampleInterval, analystHalfwidth, and additionalHalfwidth. Add half the sample interval and both halfwidths and place symmetric bounds around pickedTime.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Time units must match; this additive worst-case-style budget is not an inferred statistical confidence interval or a validated seismic pick.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Analyze the full travel path, acquisition timing, and velocity model for interpretation. Verify clock references, units, and layer assumptions before summing local timing terms.
