Seismic Pick Origin Gap Tool

Calculate seismic pick origin gap from explicit caller-supplied inputs.

Loading tool…

Description

Return pickTime-recordingOrigin, pickTime-shotOrigin, and the latter minus suppliedTravelTime.

Travel-time and timing terms connect supplied distances, velocities, and interval references. Their units and propagation model determine the interpretation; one term does not solve a complete arrival-time or subsurface problem.

Return pickTime-recordingOrigin, pickTime-shotOrigin, and the latter minus suppliedTravelTime.

When to use this tool

Use Seismic Pick Origin Gap when you need a local time or delay calculation under the supplied model.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter pickTime, recordingOrigin, shotOrigin, suppliedTravelTime. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read recordedOffset, travelTime, residual. Use the output convention below.

Require nonnegative suppliedTravelTime. Return pickTime-recordingOrigin, pickTime-shotOrigin, and the latter minus suppliedTravelTime.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Origins are distinct supplied clock references and signed travel differences are retained; no source-time synchronization, arrival detection, or velocity model is validated.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Analyze the full travel path, acquisition timing, and velocity model for interpretation. Verify clock references, units, and layer assumptions before summing local timing terms.
