Description
Scale by maximum absolute value, compute mean, and return root-mean-square of raw or mean-removed samples according to removeMean; an all-zero trace returns zero mean and RMS.
A signal summary or transfer factor describes one numerical property of supplied measurements. Amplitude, power, offset removal, and normalization conventions differ, so a result needs its exact definition before physical interpretation.
Scale by maximum absolute value, compute mean, and return root-mean-square of raw or mean-removed samples according to removeMean; an all-zero trace returns zero mean and RMS.
When to use this tool
Use Seismic Trace RMS One Window Term when you need a signal statistic or supplied-response factor.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter samples, removeMean. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read mean, rms. Use the output convention below.
Require nonempty samples. Scale by maximum absolute value, compute mean, and return root-mean-square of raw or mean-removed samples according to removeMean; an all-zero trace returns zero mean and RMS.1

} Limitations and assumptions
- RMS uses the population sample-count divisor rather than n-1 and retains amplitude units; no frequency filter, signal identification, instrument response, or uncertainty is assessed.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use the full waveform and an appropriate calibrated processing method when phase, spectral content, instrument response, or uncertainty matters. Keep amplitude and power conventions separate.
