Seismic Component Polarity Factor Tool

Apply an explicit channel polarity factor without identifying a seismic event.

Description

Require suppliedPolarity +1 or -1 and multiply amplitude by it.

A signal summary or transfer factor describes one numerical property of supplied measurements. Amplitude, power, offset removal, and normalization conventions differ, so a result needs its exact definition before physical interpretation.

Require suppliedPolarity +1 or -1 and multiply amplitude by it.

When to use this tool

Use Seismic Component Polarity Factor when you need a signal statistic or supplied-response factor.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter amplitude, suppliedPolarity. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read correctedAmplitude. Use the output convention below.

Limitations and assumptions

  • This applies a declared sign convention without detecting reversed instruments, rotating components, measuring calibration, or interpreting a seismic event.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use the full waveform and an appropriate calibrated processing method when phase, spectral content, instrument response, or uncertainty matters. Keep amplitude and power conventions separate.
