Seismic Sample Pick Residual Tool

Compare a supplied seismic pick with an explicit sample grid without event detection or hazard inference.

Description

Return originTime+sampleIndex × samplePeriod and pickedTime minus that modeled sample time.

Travel-time and timing terms connect supplied distances, velocities, and interval references. Their units and propagation model determine the interpretation; one term does not solve a complete arrival-time or subsurface problem.

Return originTime+sampleIndex × samplePeriod and pickedTime minus that modeled sample time.

When to use this tool

Use Seismic Sample Pick Residual when you need a local time or delay calculation under the supplied model.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter sampleIndex, originTime, samplePeriod, pickedTime. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read sampleTime, residual. Use the output convention below.

Require positive samplePeriod. Return originTime+sampleIndex × samplePeriod and pickedTime minus that modeled sample time.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Sample index uses the supplied numeric convention and all times share units; no interpolation, actual arrival pick, clock synchronization, or timing uncertainty is inferred.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Analyze the full travel path, acquisition timing, and velocity model for interpretation. Verify clock references, units, and layer assumptions before summing local timing terms.
