East North Up Vector Azimuth Component Tool

Calculate east north up vector azimuth component from explicit caller-supplied inputs.

Description

Return atan2(east, north) in degrees wrapped into [0, 360), and hypot(east, north) for horizontalMagnitude.

Local geographic vectors use named east, north, and up axes. Azimuth is usually referenced to north, while algebraic projection angles may be referenced to east; axis permutations also change handedness.

Return atan2(east, north) in degrees wrapped into [0, 360), and hypot(east, north) for horizontalMagnitude.

When to use this tool

Use East North Up Vector Azimuth Component when you need a local vector component, azimuth, or axis-order check.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter east, north. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read azimuthDegrees, horizontalMagnitude. Use the output convention below.

Require at least one nonzero east or north component. Return atan2(east, north) in degrees wrapped into [0, 360), and hypot(east, north) for horizontalMagnitude.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Azimuth is clockwise from north and ignores any up component. Both vector components must share units; the tool does not transform a global coordinate vector or determine a position.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use the appropriate full frame transformation for global coordinates or changing local frames. State angle reference, orientation, axis order, and units before interpreting components.
