Description
Record the stated authority of a coordinate-axis convention.
Geographic coordinates use explicit angular, axis and vertical-datum conventions. Unwrapped longitude difference differs from the shortest circular separation, and a north-based bearing differs from a rightward-zero screen rotation. Ellipsoidal and orthometric heights require a compatible geoid-undulation model.
Record the stated authority of a coordinate-axis convention.
When to use this tool
Use Coordinate Axis Authority Tag when checking the stated geographic label, angular or height-reference convention.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter axisName, authorityNamespace, code. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read token. Use the output convention below.
Require nonempty axis name, authority namespace and code. Encode the ordered triple as JSON text.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| axisName | Axis Name | Required. Text; minimum UTF-16 length 1; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |
| authorityNamespace | Authority Namespace | Required. Text; minimum UTF-16 length 1; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |
| code | Code | Required. Text; minimum UTF-16 length 1; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| token | JSON-encoded ordered tuple or literal token under the convention above; not a database lookup or authentication result. | Required. Text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |
{
"input": {
"axisName": "latitude",
"authorityNamespace": "Authority A",
"code": "AX2"
},
"output": {
"token": "[\"latitude\",\"Authority A\",\"AX2\"]"
}
} Limitations and assumptions
- No CRS registry or axis convention is validated and no coordinates are transformed.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use authoritative coordinate/datum definitions and appropriate geodesic, projection and geoid models for actual locations, distances and height conversion.
