Sample Dry Mass Support Share Tool

Calculate sample dry mass support share from explicit caller-supplied inputs.

Description

Sum mass times (1-moisture), separately for supported rows, then return their ratio or zero with defined false when total dry mass is zero.

Geochemical mass calculations distinguish wet sample, dry sample, ash, digest, and crucible-inclusive measurements. Moisture fractions and dilution factors change the reporting basis; they do not establish recovery, analyte retention, or laboratory accuracy.

Sum mass times (1-moisture), separately for supported rows, then return their ratio or zero with defined false when total dry mass is zero.

When to use this tool

Use Sample Dry Mass Support Share when you need an explicit sample-mass or concentration-basis calculation.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter wetMasses, moistureFractions, supported. Keep parallel arrays aligned. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read dryMass, supportedDryMass, share, defined. Inspect defined before interpreting the associated values.

Require equally long wetMasses, moistureFractions, and supported arrays, with nonnegative masses and moisture fractions in [0, 1]. Sum mass times (1-moisture), separately for supported rows, then return their ratio or zero with defined false when total dry mass is zero.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Moisture is a wet-mass fraction rather than a percentage or dry-basis ratio. Support flags are supplied metadata; the zero placeholder needs its defined flag and does not validate laboratory provenance.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Check the analytical preparation and measurement records for blanks, recovery, moisture, and mass basis. Use the laboratory's validated procedure for actual sample interpretation.
