Geochemical Dry Wet Concentration Crosswalk Tool

Calculate geochemical dry wet concentration crosswalk from explicit caller-supplied inputs.

Description

Return solidsFraction as one minus water fraction and dryConcentration as wetConcentration divided by solidsFraction.

Geochemical mass calculations distinguish wet sample, dry sample, ash, digest, and crucible-inclusive measurements. Moisture fractions and dilution factors change the reporting basis; they do not establish recovery, analyte retention, or laboratory accuracy.

Return solidsFraction as one minus water fraction and dryConcentration as wetConcentration divided by solidsFraction.

When to use this tool

Use Geochemical Dry Wet Concentration Crosswalk when you need an explicit sample-mass or concentration-basis calculation.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter wetConcentration, waterMassFraction. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read dryConcentration, solidsFraction. Use the output convention below.

Require waterMassFraction in [0, 1). Return solidsFraction as one minus water fraction and dryConcentration as wetConcentration divided by solidsFraction.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Water fraction uses wet sample mass as denominator, not dry mass, and concentrations retain compatible analyte units on the changed mass basis. The tool does not measure moisture or apply analyte-loss corrections.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Check the analytical preparation and measurement records for blanks, recovery, moisture, and mass basis. Use the laboratory's validated procedure for actual sample interpretation.
