Geochemical Dryash Basis Flag Tool

Concentration basis crosswalk under a caller-asserted constituent-retained-in-ash assumption.

Description

When reportAshBasis is true, divide dryBasisConcentration by ashFraction and return the reciprocal factor; otherwise retain the dry-basis value with factor one.

Geochemical mass calculations distinguish wet sample, dry sample, ash, digest, and crucible-inclusive measurements. Moisture fractions and dilution factors change the reporting basis; they do not establish recovery, analyte retention, or laboratory accuracy.

When reportAshBasis is true, divide dryBasisConcentration by ashFraction and return the reciprocal factor; otherwise retain the dry-basis value with factor one.

When to use this tool

Use Geochemical Dryash Basis Flag when you need an explicit sample-mass or concentration-basis calculation.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter dryBasisConcentration, ashFraction, reportAshBasis. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read concentration, factor. Use the output convention below.

Require ashFraction in (0, 1]. When reportAshBasis is true, divide dryBasisConcentration by ashFraction and return the reciprocal factor; otherwise retain the dry-basis value with factor one.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Ash fraction is ash mass divided by dry sample mass, not a percentage. The model assumes analyte retention in ash and does not infer losses, contamination, or chemical transformations.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Check the analytical preparation and measurement records for blanks, recovery, moisture, and mass basis. Use the laboratory's validated procedure for actual sample interpretation.
