Gi Sample Aliquot Empty Base Flag Tool

Supplied research-sample inventory only, without sampling or clinical advice.

Description

Return remaining volume, usable volume clamped at zero, and empty when remaining is no greater than dead volume.

Specimen quantities can be reported on a volume, wet-mass or dry-mass basis. Conversion factors and usable-volume assumptions change the denominator; they do not validate the specimen or turn a numerical ratio into a clinical result.

Return remaining volume, usable volume clamped at zero, and empty when remaining is no greater than dead volume.

When to use this tool

Use Gi Sample Aliquot Empty Base Flag when you need a specimen-volume or supplied mass-basis calculation.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter totalVolume, withdrawn, deadVolume. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read remaining, usable, empty. Inspect empty before interpreting the associated values.

Require nonnegative totalVolume, withdrawn and deadVolume, with withdrawal no greater than total. Return remaining volume, usable volume clamped at zero, and empty when remaining is no greater than dead volume.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Volumes share units. Dead volume can exceed remaining volume; empty means no modeled usable volume, not necessarily a physically empty container.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Review the analytical preparation and source records for units, blanks, recovery and sample condition. Use a validated method and appropriate professional interpretation for health decisions.
