Uncertainty Coverage Factor Suffix Tool

Append an explicit uncertainty coverage factor without assuming a confidence distribution.

Description

Require positive factor and append a literal space plus (k=factor) to the supplied value text.

Measurement uncertainty notation needs a declared numerical scale, unit and interpretation. Parenthesized digits can refer to the last written places, while a coverage-factor suffix is only a label unless an uncertainty calculation supports it.

Require positive factor and append a literal space plus (k=factor) to the supplied value text.

When to use this tool

Use Uncertainty Coverage Factor Suffix when you need the specified uncertainty-text layout or last-place conversion.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter value, factor. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read text. Use the output convention below.

Require positive factor and append a literal space plus (k=factor) to the supplied value text.1

factorPositive supplied coverage-factor label; not applied to a numeric uncertainty.Required. Finite number; strictly above 0.

Limitations and assumptions

  • The factor is not applied to an uncertainty or converted to a confidence level. Value text is not numerically parsed.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use an appropriate uncertainty analysis and reporting convention for real measurements. Verify units, decimal alignment, uncertainty type and coverage meaning separately from formatting.
