Uncertainty Digits Alignment Pair Tool

Attach uncertainty digits only when the value already has the explicitly declared decimal alignment.

Description

Join value and parenthesized uncertainty digits.

Measurement uncertainty notation needs a declared numerical scale, unit and interpretation. Parenthesized digits can refer to the last written places, while a coverage-factor suffix is only a label unless an uncertainty calculation supports it.

Join value and parenthesized uncertainty digits.

When to use this tool

Use Uncertainty Digits Alignment Pair when you need the specified uncertainty-text layout or last-place conversion.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter value, uncertaintyDigits, decimals. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read text. Use the output convention below.

Require decimal count 0-100, unsigned uncertainty digits, and signed decimal value text with exactly that many fractional digits. Join value and parenthesized uncertainty digits.1

Parenthesized uncertainty digits refer to the last written places under this notation; the tool only formats supplied text.2

Limitations and assumptions

  • The value is not rounded and the uncertainty is not estimated. Parenthesis interpretation requires a last-place uncertainty convention on the same unit basis.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use an appropriate uncertainty analysis and reporting convention for real measurements. Verify units, decimal alignment, uncertainty type and coverage meaning separately from formatting.
