Defect Deduction Percent Gross Scale

Deduct separately declared mutually exclusive volume defects by measured log segment and conserve gross/net inventory; overlapping causes must not be double counted and no regional commercial scaling rule is embedded.

Description

Volume defects must be mutually exclusive before their fractions are summed.

Volume defects must be mutually exclusive before their fractions are summed. A segment ledger preserves gross, deduction and net-volume accounting.1

Deduct separately declared mutually exclusive volume defects by measured log segment and conserve gross/net inventory; overlapping causes must not be double counted and no regional commercial scaling rule is embedded.

When to use Defect Deduction Percent Gross Scale

Use this tool to deduct separately declared mutually exclusive volume defects by measured log segment and conserve gross/net inventory; overlapping causes must not be double counted and no regional commercial scaling rule is embedded.

Gather the tree inventory, plot measurements or model parameters. Check diameter, area, time and moisture conventions; keep paired observations aligned.

How to use Defect Deduction Percent Gross Scale and understand its results

  1. Gather the tree inventory, plot measurements or model parameters. Check diameter, area, time and moisture conventions; keep paired observations aligned.
  2. Enter segmentGrossVolumesM3, mutuallyExclusiveDefectFractionsBySegment using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
  3. Read segmentNetVolumesM3, totalDefectDeductionM3, totalNetScaleVolumeM3. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
  4. If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
Input fieldMeaningValue type; see rules belowRequirement
segmentGrossVolumesM3Segment gross volumes m3list of numberRequired
mutuallyExclusiveDefectFractionsBySegmentMutually exclusive defect fractions by segmentlist of list of numberRequired

Pair nonnegative segment m³ with rectangular rows of defect fractions in [0,1], each row sum≤1. Return segment net volumes, total deduction and total net scale.

Paired lists must be nonempty and have equal lengths.

segment net=gross segment volume × (1−sum exclusive defect fractions)

Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.

Limitations and assumptions

Overlapping causes would double-count defects. No regional commercial scaling rule is embedded.

Numeric inputs and returned numeric values must be finite; an unrepresentable returned value produces an error. Matrices are limited to 128 rows and 128 entries per row; other numeric lists are limited to 100,000 entries. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use Deadwood Volume: Inventory exact frustum log envelopes, hollow exclusions and caller decay-adjusted solid volume separately; not a standalone Huber/Smalian/Newton or bark-volume alias, and cavity/taper assumptions are explicit. For a complementary task, use Stump Volume Loss Percent: Inventory stump frustum envelopes and loss fraction on explicitly accounted stump+delivered log volume; unmeasured tops/defects are excluded, not asserted total biological harvest loss.
