Evidence Volume Subsample Share Term Tool

Homogeneity-based mass expansion with an explicit assumption flag, without a forensic sampling sufficiency claim.

Loading tool…

Description

Return subsample fraction and measured mass times total/subsample, plus the supplied homogeneous flag.

An assay correction separates measured signal, background and calibration. A normalized peak or extrapolated sample amount depends on the supplied analytical and sampling assumptions, not just the arithmetic.

Return subsample fraction and measured mass times total/subsample, plus the supplied homogeneous flag.

When to use this tool

Use Evidence Volume Subsample Share Term when you need one assay correction, signal ratio or subsample extrapolation.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter totalVolume, subsampleVolume, measuredMass, homogeneous. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read fraction, extrapolatedMass, assumptionAffirmed. Inspect assumptionAffirmed before interpreting the associated values.

Require positive subsample volume no greater than total and nonnegative measuredMass. Return subsample fraction and measured mass times total/subsample, plus the supplied homogeneous flag.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Extrapolation occurs even when homogeneous is false. Uniform composition is a necessary interpretation assumption, not established by the returned number or flag.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use the full validated laboratory method with traceable calibration, sampling and uncertainty records. A complete forensic conclusion requires appropriate source evaluation beyond one corrected quantity.
