Description
Round up to complete repeats and return cut length and excess.
Repeated pattern positions require an origin, repeat length and rounding policy. Counting complete repeats or rounding material up to a repeat does not determine matching between separate pieces or the position of real motifs.
Round up to complete repeats and return cut length and excess.
When to use this tool
Use Fabric Directional Print Cutting Loss when you need a repeat, notch-grid or partial-panel calculation.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter requiredLength, repeatLength. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read repeats, cutLength, excess. Use the output convention below.
Require nonnegative required length and positive repeat. Round up to complete repeats and return cut length and excess.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| requiredLength | Required Length | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| repeatLength | Repeat Length | Required. Finite number; strictly above 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| repeats | Repeats | Required. Safe integer. |
| cutLength | Cut Length | Required. Finite number. |
| excess | Excess | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Zero requirement gives zero repeats. Pattern starting phase, directional matching between pieces, selvages and seam allowances are not modeled.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Lay out the actual pieces and repeat phase in the intended fabric. Check direction, alignment, seam allowances and joins before cutting.
