Fabric Repeat Panel Phase Tool

Find a panel-start phase and the nonnegative advance needed to align with a fabric repeat.

Description

Compute panelStart minus referenceStart modulo positive repeatLength for phase.

Garment and pattern calculations use measurements, allowances, fold conventions, and repeat positions. A local calculation is one pattern component; fabric behavior, fit, and manufacturing tolerances require separate assessment.

Compute panelStart minus referenceStart modulo positive repeatLength for phase.

When to use this tool

Use Fabric Repeat Panel Phase when you need a bounded pattern, spacing, or allowance component using consistent length units.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter panelStart, repeatLength, referenceStart. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read phase, advanceToNextRepeat. Use the output convention below.

Compute panelStart minus referenceStart modulo positive repeatLength for phase. Return zero advance when aligned or repeatLength minus phase otherwise.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • This is a one-axis repeat alignment without pattern symmetry, mirrored cuts, fabric defects, seam allowance, or cutting optimization.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Check the complete pattern and test fit or material behavior before production.
