Description
Combine a supplied baseline and jitter into fixation duration.
Experimental-psychology records separate condition labels, declared masking, timing assumptions, response rules and reward realizations. A supplied random draw can be evaluated without generating randomness, and a threshold comparison does not verify preregistration or establish statistical significance. Experimental validity needs the complete design and source observations.
Combine a supplied baseline and jitter into fixation duration.
When to use this tool
Use Pretrial Fixation Duration Jitter Offset when checking the stated benign experiment record, timing, allocation or payoff convention.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter baseDuration, suppliedJitter. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read fixationDuration. Use the output convention below.
Require baseDuration>=0 and base+suppliedJitter>=0. Return their sum as fixationDuration.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| baseDuration | Base Duration | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| suppliedJitter | Supplied Jitter | Required. Finite number. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| fixationDuration | Fixation Duration | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Jitter is supplied, not randomly sampled; the tool does not display stimuli, verify timing or select a suitable experimental duration.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use verified protocols, calibrated timing, appropriate complete statistical methods and responsible participant/ethics review for actual experimental conclusions.
