Stimulus Monitor Scanout Offset Tool

Add an explicitly supplied monitor scanout delay to a requested stimulus onset without measuring display latency.

Description

Calculate a supplied display scanout timing contribution.

Experimental-psychology records separate condition labels, declared masking, timing assumptions, response rules and reward realizations. A supplied random draw can be evaluated without generating randomness, and a threshold comparison does not verify preregistration or establish statistical significance. Experimental validity needs the complete design and source observations.

Calculate a supplied display scanout timing contribution.

When to use this tool

Use Stimulus Monitor Scanout Offset when checking the stated benign experiment record, timing, allocation or payoff convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter requestedOnset, suppliedScanoutDelay. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read estimatedDisplayOnset. Use the output convention below.

Require suppliedScanoutDelay>=0. Return requestedOnset+delay as estimatedDisplayOnset in the same time unit.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
requestedOnsetRequested OnsetRequired. Finite number.
suppliedScanoutDelayNonnegative assumed delay added to requested onset; not measured device timing.Required. Finite number; minimum 0.
Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape
estimatedDisplayOnsetEstimated Display OnsetRequired. Finite number.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Delay is a supplied estimate; no display timing, refresh phase, actual onset or device calibration is measured.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use verified protocols, calibrated timing, appropriate complete statistical methods and responsible participant/ethics review for actual experimental conclusions.
