Description
Calculate a condition-mean contrast with optional sign reversal.
Experimental-psychology records separate condition labels, declared masking, timing assumptions, response rules and reward realizations. A supplied random draw can be evaluated without generating randomness, and a threshold comparison does not verify preregistration or establish statistical significance. Experimental validity needs the complete design and source observations.
Calculate a condition-mean contrast with optional sign reversal.
When to use this tool
Use Manipulation Check Contrast Value when checking the stated benign experiment record, timing, allocation or payoff convention.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter conditionMean, comparisonMean, reverseSign. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read contrast. Use the output convention below.
Return conditionMean-comparisonMean, negating the result only when reverseSign=true.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| conditionMean | Condition Mean | Required. Finite number. |
| comparisonMean | Comparison Mean | Required. Finite number. |
| reverseSign | Reverse Sign | Required. Boolean. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| contrast | Contrast | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Means and direction are supplied; the contrast is not a significance test, standardized effect size or proof of a successful manipulation.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use verified protocols, calibrated timing, appropriate complete statistical methods and responsible participant/ethics review for actual experimental conclusions.
