Historic Currency Division Remainder Tool

Divide a supplied historic currency amount through two explicit denomination radices; no exchange values are embedded.

Description

Parse exact decimal integer strings for smallest units and two positive bases.

Historical currencies may divide major units into several levels with nondecimal bases. Supplied denomination arithmetic can preserve exact quantities, but it does not establish an exchange rate, purchasing power or the identity of an actual coin.

Parse exact decimal integer strings for smallest units and two positive bases.

When to use this tool

Use Historic Currency Division Remainder when you need a supplied historical denomination conversion or integer split.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter smallestUnits, unitsPerMajor, unitsPerMiddle. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read majorDecimal, middleDecimal, remainderDecimal. Use the output convention below.

Parse exact decimal integer strings for smallest units and two positive bases. Require major base divisible by middle base; split into major quotient, middle quotient of remainder and smallest remainder, all decimal strings.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
smallestUnitsSmallest UnitsRequired. Text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. Integer syntax: optional + or - and 1-128 decimal digits; leading zeros accepted. Apply the sign restriction above.
unitsPerMajorPositive exact integer smallest units per major unit.Required. Text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. Integer syntax: optional + or - and 1-128 decimal digits; leading zeros accepted. Apply the sign restriction above.
unitsPerMiddlePositive exact integer smallest units per middle unit; must divide major base.Required. Text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. Integer syntax: optional + or - and 1-128 decimal digits; leading zeros accepted. Apply the sign restriction above.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Bases mean smallest units per major and per middle unit. No built-in historical system, exchange value or denomination authenticity is supplied.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Verify the relevant time, jurisdiction and denomination system from the source records. Use separate evidence for valuation, exchange and coin authenticity.
