Historical Coin Fraction Remainder Tool

Calculate historical coin fraction remainder from explicit caller-supplied inputs.

Description

Return total smallest units and integer quotient/remainder by divisor.

Historical currencies may divide major units into several levels with nondecimal bases. Supplied denomination arithmetic can preserve exact quantities, but it does not establish an exchange rate, purchasing power or the identity of an actual coin.

Return total smallest units and integer quotient/remainder by divisor.

When to use this tool

Use Historical Coin Fraction Remainder when you need a supplied historical denomination conversion or integer split.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter majorUnits, subunits, suppliedBase, divisor. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read totalSubunits, quotient, remainder. Use the output convention below.

Require nonnegative integer major units, positive base/divisor and subunits below base, with safe expanded total. Return total smallest units and integer quotient/remainder by divisor.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • The base is supplied and all quantities use one historical currency system. This performs arithmetic, not exchange, valuation or authentication.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Verify the relevant time, jurisdiction and denomination system from the source records. Use separate evidence for valuation, exchange and coin authenticity.
