Reciprocity Obligation Remainder

Subtract explicit recorded returns from a caller-defined compatible owed amount without assigning ethical obligation.

Description

Calculate the signed remainder of a supplied reciprocity obligation.

Ethics records describe supplied claims, roles, obligations, consent status and participation counts. Recording a permission modality or competing role does not resolve a duty conflict, establish valid consent or determine an ethically acceptable decision. Numerical balance and equal turn counts are limited summaries.

Calculate the signed remainder of a supplied reciprocity obligation.

When to use this tool

Use Reciprocity Obligation Remainder when checking the stated ethical-review record, obligation or participation convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter suppliedOwedAmount, recordedReturnAmount. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read remainingAmount. Use the output convention below.

Require nonnegative supplied owed/recorded returned amounts. Return owed-returned without clamping.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • A negative balance is retained; the obligation and return are supplied rather than a moral or legal determination.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods
