Description
Calculate concentration after ideal additive-volume mixing of two water streams.
Environmental engineering quantities depend on compatible mass/volume units, reference levels, usable geometry and complete flow boundaries. Nominal bed volume differs from pore-water volume, and hydraulic surface loading differs from pore velocity. A supplied removal or recovery fraction does not establish actual treatment performance or safe operation.
Calculate concentration after ideal additive-volume mixing of two water streams.
When to use this tool
Use Water Reuse Blending Concentration Term when checking the stated benign engineering mass, volume, reference or throughput term.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter firstVolume, firstConcentration, secondVolume, secondConcentration. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read blendedConcentration, totalVolume. Use the output convention below.
Require nonnegative volumes and concentrations with positive finite combined volume. Return totalVolume and sum of each concentration weighted by its volume share.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| firstVolume | First Volume | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| firstConcentration | First Concentration | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| secondVolume | Second Volume | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| secondConcentration | Second Concentration | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| blendedConcentration | Volume-weighted concentration under additive-volume, conserved-solute assumptions. | Required. Finite number. |
| totalVolume | Total Volume | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Assumes additive volumes and conserved compatible solute quantities; reactions, density-basis differences, treatment effectiveness and reuse safety are not modeled.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use measured operating conditions, verified equipment properties and a complete suitable process model with qualified engineering/environmental review for actual design and operation.
