Description
Calculate signed removed pollutant mass and its fraction of inlet mass.
Environmental engineering quantities depend on compatible mass/volume units, reference levels, usable geometry and complete flow boundaries. Nominal bed volume differs from pore-water volume, and hydraulic surface loading differs from pore velocity. A supplied removal or recovery fraction does not establish actual treatment performance or safe operation.
Calculate signed removed pollutant mass and its fraction of inlet mass.
When to use this tool
Use Pollutant Control Removal Delta when checking the stated benign engineering mass, volume, reference or throughput term.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter inletMass, outletMass. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read removedMass, removalFraction. Use the output convention below.
Require inletMass>0 and outletMass>=0. Return inlet-outlet removedMass and divide it by inlet for removalFraction.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| inletMass | Inlet Mass | Required. Finite number; strictly above 0. |
| outletMass | Outlet Mass | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| removedMass | Removed Mass | Required. Finite number. |
| removalFraction | (inlet-outlet)/inlet; negative when outlet mass exceeds inlet. | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Outlet above inlet gives negative removal; use compatible accounting periods and mass bases. No actual treatment efficacy, uncertainty or compliance is established.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use measured operating conditions, verified equipment properties and a complete suitable process model with qualified engineering/environmental review for actual design and operation.
