Environmental Engineering: Stack Gas Oxygen Reference Factor Tool

Compute the dry-basis stack concentration oxygen-reference factor using explicit air/reference/measured oxygen percentages; no regulatory standard or emissions compliance inferred.

Description

Return result.correctionFactor = (airOxygenPercent-referenceOxygenPercent)/(airOxygenPercent-measuredOxygenPercent).

Gas concentrations depend on moisture, oxygen and reference-state conventions. Removing water vapor changes the volume denominator; oxygen normalization uses a separate dilution convention. Both require compatible measurement bases.

Return result.correctionFactor = (airOxygenPercent-referenceOxygenPercent)/(airOxygenPercent-measuredOxygenPercent).

When to use this tool

Use Environmental Engineering: Stack Gas Oxygen Reference Factor when checking one explicit gas-basis correction factor.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter measuredOxygenPercent, referenceOxygenPercent, airOxygenPercent. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read result. Expand result to inspect the returned fields.

Require airOxygenPercent in [0,100], and nonnegative measuredOxygenPercent and referenceOxygenPercent both strictly below airOxygenPercent. Return result.correctionFactor = (airOxygenPercent-referenceOxygenPercent)/(airOxygenPercent-measuredOxygenPercent). Enter all three as percent magnitudes, such as 21 rather than 0.21.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Apply the dimensionless factor separately to a concentration on a compatible gas basis. This tool neither chooses the reference oxygen value nor converts wet/dry or temperature/pressure bases, and it does not determine emission compliance.
  • Outputs are nested inside result. Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Establish the required wet/dry, temperature, pressure and oxygen references before combining correction factors or interpreting an emissions measurement.
