Stack Gas Dry Wet Volume Factor Tool

Dry/wet concentration correction at matching pressure and temperature with a volume-basis water-vapor fraction.

Loading tool…

Description

Return dryVolume = wetVolume*(1-waterVaporFraction) and dryConcentration = wetConcentration/(1-waterVaporFraction).

Gas concentrations depend on moisture, oxygen and reference-state conventions. Removing water vapor changes the volume denominator; oxygen normalization uses a separate dilution convention. Both require compatible measurement bases.

Return dryVolume = wetVolume*(1-waterVaporFraction) and dryConcentration = wetConcentration/(1-waterVaporFraction).

When to use this tool

Use Stack Gas Dry Wet Volume Factor when checking one explicit gas-basis correction factor.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter wetVolume, waterVaporFraction, wetConcentration. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read dryVolume, dryConcentration. Use the output convention below.

Require nonnegative wetVolume and waterVaporFraction in [0,1). Return dryVolume = wetVolume*(1-waterVaporFraction) and dryConcentration = wetConcentration/(1-waterVaporFraction). The fraction is a volume or mole fraction on the same gas state, not percent.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • The calculation removes water vapor from the volume basis while conserving the represented pollutant amount. wetConcentration is a signed finite input; temperature, pressure, oxygen correction and condensation behavior are not computed.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Establish the required wet/dry, temperature, pressure and oxygen references before combining correction factors or interpreting an emissions measurement.
