Filter Back Wash Recovery Loss

Reconcile supplied backwash recovery volumes and identify an empty recovery denominator.

Description

Separate recovered and lost backwash volume, with an explicit zero-wash sentinel.

Environmental engineering quantities depend on compatible mass/volume units, reference levels, usable geometry and complete flow boundaries. Nominal bed volume differs from pore-water volume, and hydraulic surface loading differs from pore velocity. A supplied removal or recovery fraction does not establish actual treatment performance or safe operation.

Separate recovered and lost backwash volume, with an explicit zero-wash sentinel.

When to use this tool

Use Filter Back Wash Recovery Loss when checking the stated benign engineering mass, volume, reference or throughput term.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter washVolume, recoveredVolume. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read lostVolume, recoveryFraction, defined. Inspect defined before interpreting the associated values.

Require nonnegative wash/recovered volumes with recovered<=wash. Return wash-recovered loss and recovered/wash, or zero with defined=false when wash=0.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input

lostVolumeLost VolumeRequired. Finite number.
recoveryFractionRecovered/wash volume, or zero placeholder when defined=false at zero wash.Required. Finite number.
definedWhether the corresponding reporting denominator/direction is defined; inspect before interpreting zero placeholders.Required. Boolean.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Recovery is a volume fraction, not contaminant removal or reusable-water quality; zero output may be a flagged placeholder.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use measured operating conditions, verified equipment properties and a complete suitable process model with qualified engineering/environmental review for actual design and operation.
