Pipe Leak Night Flow Baseline Difference Tool

Subtract explicit baseline from measured night flow on a shared time and unit basis without identifying leakage.

Loading tool…

Description

Compare night flow with a caller-supplied pipe-leak baseline.

Environmental engineering quantities depend on compatible mass/volume units, reference levels, usable geometry and complete flow boundaries. Nominal bed volume differs from pore-water volume, and hydraulic surface loading differs from pore velocity. A supplied removal or recovery fraction does not establish actual treatment performance or safe operation.

Compare night flow with a caller-supplied pipe-leak baseline.

When to use this tool

Use Pipe Leak Night Flow Baseline Difference when checking the stated benign engineering mass, volume, reference or throughput term.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter baselineNightFlow, measuredNightFlow. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read signedGap. Use the output convention below.

Return measuredNightFlow-baselineNightFlow as a signed gap.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input

measuredNightFlowMeasured Night FlowRequired. Finite number.
Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape
signedGapSigned first/second difference in the direction and units specified above.Required. Finite number.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Both flows must share units and operational basis; the difference alone does not identify or quantify a physical leak.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use measured operating conditions, verified equipment properties and a complete suitable process model with qualified engineering/environmental review for actual design and operation.
