Pollen Counter Marker Grain Zero Budget Tool

Marker-ratio arithmetic with explicit zero-marker handling; no identification or recovery calibration.

Description

Estimate pollen amount from a supplied marker-grain ratio while preserving an undefined zero-marker result.

Entomological counts can refer to individuals, hosts, marker grains or a known cohort. Ratios are meaningful only when numerator and denominator describe compatible observations; an absent denominator differs from an observed zero proportion.

Estimate pollen amount from a supplied marker-grain ratio while preserving an undefined zero-marker result.

When to use this tool

Use Pollen Counter Marker Grain Zero Budget when checking a supplied count ratio or cohort balance.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter pollenCount, markerCount, suppliedMarkerAmount. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read defined, estimatedAmount. Inspect defined before interpreting the associated values.

Require nonnegative whole pollenCount and markerCount and nonnegative suppliedMarkerAmount. When markerCount > 0, estimatedAmount = pollenCount*suppliedMarkerAmount/markerCount and defined = true; otherwise return zero and defined = false.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Marker and pollen counts must come from a comparable subsample. Zero marker count is undefined, not absence of pollen; recovery and mixing assumptions are not verified.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use appropriate counting, subsampling and recovery methods for inference beyond these supplied counts.
