Insect Emergence Cumulative One Day Term Tool

Calculate insect emergence cumulative one day term from explicit caller-supplied inputs.

Description

Return cumulative as that sum, fraction = cumulative/expectedTotal and remaining = expectedTotal-cumulative.

Entomological counts can refer to individuals, hosts, marker grains or a known cohort. Ratios are meaningful only when numerator and denominator describe compatible observations; an absent denominator differs from an observed zero proportion.

Return cumulative as that sum, fraction = cumulative/expectedTotal and remaining = expectedTotal-cumulative.

When to use this tool

Use Insect Emergence Cumulative One Day Term when checking a supplied count ratio or cohort balance.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter previousCumulative, today, expectedTotal. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read cumulative, fraction, remaining. Use the output convention below.

Require positive whole expectedTotal and nonnegative whole previousCumulative and today with their sum <= expectedTotal. Return cumulative as that sum, fraction = cumulative/expectedTotal and remaining = expectedTotal-cumulative.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • The expected cohort total is supplied, not estimated. Duplicate emergence records, mortality, recruitment and incomplete observation are not detected.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use appropriate counting, subsampling and recovery methods for inference beyond these supplied counts.
