Description
Calculate a take-or-pay shortfall, applied makeup credit and remaining shortfall payment.
Energy contracts and credit accounts distinguish quantities accrued, used, available, curtailed, expired or qualified. A numeric balance applies an explicit convention; it does not establish which contractual or market rules actually apply.
Calculate a take-or-pay shortfall, applied makeup credit and remaining shortfall payment.
When to use this tool
Use Take OR Pay Makeup Credit Gap when reconciling a specified energy credit, allocation or settlement term.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter minimumQuantity, taken, makeupCredits, unitPrice. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read shortfall, creditedQuantity, payable. Use the output convention below.
Require nonnegative minimumQuantity, taken, makeupCredits and unitPrice. shortfall = max(0,minimumQuantity-taken); creditedQuantity = min(makeupCredits, shortfall); payable = max(0,shortfall-makeupCredits)*unitPrice.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| minimumQuantity | Minimum Quantity | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| taken | Taken | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| makeupCredits | Makeup Credits | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| unitPrice | Unit Price | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| shortfall | Shortfall | Required. Finite number. |
| creditedQuantity | Credited Quantity | Required. Finite number. |
| payable | Payable | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Credits use the same quantity unit and only reduce the stated shortfall. Actual contract obligations, credit expiry and payment for quantities already taken are outside this term.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Review actual program rules, contract terms and dated records before treating a calculated balance or payment as due.
