Sampling Time Phase Offset Tool

Map supplied sampling time to a caller-defined periodic research phase without inferring a biological rhythm.

Loading tool…

Description

Let delta = sampleTime-phaseOrigin; phase is its remainder wrapped into [0,period), and cycle = floor(delta/period).

Endocrine sampling can be labeled relative to a declared periodic origin. Wrapped clock phase, cycle count and biological circadian phase are different concepts; a supplied offset or period is not a physiological measurement.

Let delta = sampleTime-phaseOrigin; phase is its remainder wrapped into [0,period), and cycle = floor(delta/period).

When to use this tool

Use Sampling Time Phase Offset when mapping a supplied sampling time onto a declared cycle.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter sampleTime, phaseOrigin, suppliedPeriod. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read phase, cycle. Use the output convention below.

Require positive suppliedPeriod. Let delta = sampleTime-phaseOrigin; phase is its remainder wrapped into [0,period), and cycle = floor(delta/period).1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Use a common time unit and origin. This is a declared periodic coordinate, not an estimate of physiological circadian phase or hormone response.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use an appropriate biological timing assessment and synchronized records when real circadian phase matters.
