Description
Return phaseFraction as (sampleAt-cycleOrigin) wrapped modulo cycleDuration, divided by cycleDuration.
Endocrine sampling can be labeled relative to a declared periodic origin. Wrapped clock phase, cycle count and biological circadian phase are different concepts; a supplied offset or period is not a physiological measurement.
Return phaseFraction as (sampleAt-cycleOrigin) wrapped modulo cycleDuration, divided by cycleDuration.
When to use this tool
Use Sample Circadian Phase Fraction when mapping a supplied sampling time onto a declared cycle.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter sampleAt, cycleOrigin, cycleDuration. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read phaseFraction. Use the output convention below.
Require positive cycleDuration. Return phaseFraction as (sampleAt-cycleOrigin) wrapped modulo cycleDuration, divided by cycleDuration. If direct subtraction overflows, reduce each coordinate first and then take their wrapped difference.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| sampleAt | Sample At | Required. Finite number. |
| cycleOrigin | Cycle Origin | Required. Finite number. |
| cycleDuration | Cycle Duration | Required. Finite number; strictly above 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| phaseFraction | Phase Fraction | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- The fraction lies on the declared cycle and uses common time units. It does not determine a biological period, infer hormone timing or establish a clinical reference range.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use an appropriate biological timing assessment and synchronized records when real circadian phase matters.
