Research Baseline Zero Domain Tool

Report ratio/log-ratio domain flags for supplied research measurements; no clinical interpretation.

Loading tool…

Description

Report whether a supplied research ratio and its real logarithm are numerically defined.

Assay ratios and reference comparisons require compatible units, molecular forms and calibration. A nonzero denominator or valid logarithm domain is a numerical property, not proof of measurement validity or a clinical interpretation.

Report whether a supplied research ratio and its real logarithm are numerically defined.

When to use this tool

Use Research Baseline Zero Domain when checking a supplied assay ratio, conversion or reference gap.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter baseline, observation. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read ratioDefined, ratio, logRatioDefined. Inspect ratioDefined, logRatioDefined before interpreting the associated values.

Return ratioDefined = (baseline !== 0) and ratio = observation/baseline when defined, otherwise zero. logRatioDefined is true only for a nonzero baseline whose resulting ratio is positive; no logarithm is returned.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
baselineBaselineRequired. Finite number.
observationObservationRequired. Finite number.
Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape
ratioDefinedWhether baseline is nonzero.Required. Boolean.
ratioRatio using the stated numerator and denominator convention.Required. Finite number.
logRatioDefinedWhether the computed ratio would have a defined real natural logarithm; no logarithm is returned.Required. Boolean.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Signed observations and baselines are accepted. A zero ratio placeholder is not a measured ratio, and numerical log-domain validity does not establish assay or clinical validity.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Review assay-specific calibration, molecular-form equivalence and appropriate clinical context before interpreting a result.
