Inductor Mutual Energy Sign Token Tool

Signed mutual energy term under an explicit dot-convention sign.

Loading tool…

Description

mutualEnergy = dotSign*mutualInductance*firstCurrent*secondCurrent; sign labels the result positive, negative or zero.

Magnetic coupling uses explicit winding, current and voltage references. Turns-square reflection and mutual-energy signs are ideal model conventions; they do not establish actual coupling, saturation or a safe winding connection.

mutualEnergy = dotSign*mutualInductance*firstCurrent*secondCurrent; sign labels the result positive, negative or zero.

When to use this tool

Use Inductor Mutual Energy Sign Token when checking one supplied turns-ratio, dot-reference or mutual-coupling term.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter mutualInductance, firstCurrent, secondCurrent, dotSign. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read mutualEnergy, sign. Use the output convention below.

Require nonnegative mutualInductance and dotSign exactly 1 or -1. mutualEnergy = dotSign*mutualInductance*firstCurrent*secondCurrent; sign labels the result positive, negative or zero.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • The sign includes both reference metadata and signed currents. It is one cross-energy term, not total stored energy or validation of a coupled-inductor model.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use the full coupled circuit and component data for physical realizability, losses, transients and operating constraints.
