Description
Return nutrient amount per chosen energy base.
A food nutrient amount depends on mass, composition, retention and the chosen reference or exchange convention. Nitrogen-derived protein and a single amino-acid ratio are analytical terms rather than complete measures of dietary adequacy.
Return nutrient amount per chosen energy base.
When to use this tool
Use Nutrient Density Per Energy Basis when checking a supplied nutrient amount, protein factor or reporting normalization.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter nutrientAmount, energy, referenceEnergy. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read density. Use the output convention below.
Return nutrient amount per chosen energy base. Require nonnegative nutrientAmount and positive energy/referenceEnergy; density = nutrientAmount*referenceEnergy/energy.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| nutrientAmount | Nutrient Amount | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| energy | Energy | Required. Finite number; strictly above 0. |
| referenceEnergy | Positive chosen energy base, in the same units as energy. | Required. Finite number; strictly above 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| density | Density | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Use matching energy units; nutrient density alone does not establish diet quality or individual requirements.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use appropriate food-composition and analytical sources, and professional dietary guidance for individual requirements or treatment plans.
