Tissue Fold Curvature Radius Term Tool

Circular mid-surface curvature with a separate thickness-based outer/inner arc ratio.

Loading tool…

Description

Return signed curvature and outer/inner arc ratio for a folded layer.

Developmental biological models connect supplied dimensions, counts and growth factors under explicit geometry and sampling assumptions. A local asymmetry or inferred duration is not direct evidence of cell fate, mechanism or abnormal development.

Return signed curvature and outer/inner arc ratio for a folded layer.

When to use this tool

Use Tissue Fold Curvature Radius Term when checking one supplied tissue, count or growth-model contribution.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter radius, signedOrientation, thickness. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read curvature, outerInnerArcRatio. Use the output convention below.

Return signed curvature and outer/inner arc ratio for a folded layer. Require radius > 0, sign exactly ±1 and 0 <= thickness < 2*radius; curvature = sign/radius and ratio = (radius+thickness/2)/(radius-thickness/2).1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
radiusRadiusRequired. Finite number; strictly above 0.
signedOrientationSigned OrientationRequired. Safe integer.
thicknessThicknessRequired. Finite number; minimum 0.
Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape
curvatureSigned reciprocal radius; reciprocal length units.Required. Finite number.
outerInnerArcRatio(radius+thickness/2)/(radius-thickness/2); assumes the supplied bent-layer geometry.Required. Finite number.

Limitations and assumptions

  • This ideal circular fold omits variable curvature, tissue stresses and three-dimensional geometry.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use appropriate biological observations and a complete validated model for developmental interpretation or experimental inference.
