Cell Cycle Phase Fraction Duration Term Tool

Phase duration inferred from a supplied phase-cell fraction under an explicit uniform cell-age sampling approximation; exponentially growing asynchronous populations require an age-distribution correction.

Description

Estimate phase duration from a supplied positive-cell fraction.

Developmental biological models connect supplied dimensions, counts and growth factors under explicit geometry and sampling assumptions. A local asymmetry or inferred duration is not direct evidence of cell fate, mechanism or abnormal development.

Estimate phase duration from a supplied positive-cell fraction.

When to use this tool

Use Cell Cycle Phase Fraction Duration Term when checking one supplied tissue, count or growth-model contribution.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter positiveCells, totalCells, cycleDuration. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read fraction, inferredDuration. Use the output convention below.

Estimate phase duration from a supplied positive-cell fraction. Require whole totalCells >= 1, positiveCells in [0,total] and cycleDuration >= 0; inferredDuration = cycleDuration*positiveCells/totalCells.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
positiveCellsPositive CellsRequired. Safe integer; minimum 0.
totalCellsTotal CellsRequired. Safe integer; minimum 1.
cycleDurationCycle DurationRequired. Finite number; minimum 0.
Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape
fractionDimensionless fraction on the stated basis; a value of 1 represents the whole reference amount.Required. Finite number.
inferredDurationcycleDuration*positiveCells/totalCells; interpretation assumes a suitable asynchronous steady-state population.Required. Finite number.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Interpreting counts as time requires a suitable stationary/asynchronous population model; it is not directly observed duration.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use appropriate biological observations and a complete validated model for developmental interpretation or experimental inference.
