Description
Return one branch's share of total lineage duration.
Developmental stages and lineages can be represented by labels, ordered events and observation intervals. Index and time differences preserve a declared representation but do not discover lineage, assign stage or establish biological equivalence.
Return one branch's share of total lineage duration.
When to use this tool
Use Lineage Branch Duration Share when checking an explicit stage, lineage or observation-coordinate convention.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter branchDuration, totalLineageDuration. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read share. Use the output convention below.
Return one branch's share of total lineage duration. Require positive totalLineageDuration and branchDuration in [0,total]; share = branch/total.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| branchDuration | Branch Duration | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| totalLineageDuration | Total Lineage Duration | Required. Finite number; strictly above 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| share | Dimensionless ratio on the explicitly stated numerator and denominator basis. | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- This is time allocation, not a lineage probability or proof of complete observation.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
