Branching Organ Tip Bifurcation Count Tool

Each isolated binary tip bifurcation replaces one tip by two, adding one terminal tip.

Description

Return terminal-tip balance under binary branching.

Developmental biological models connect supplied dimensions, counts and growth factors under explicit geometry and sampling assumptions. A local asymmetry or inferred duration is not direct evidence of cell fate, mechanism or abnormal development.

Return terminal-tip balance under binary branching.

When to use this tool

Use Branching Organ Tip Bifurcation Count when checking one supplied tissue, count or growth-model contribution.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter initialTips, bifurcations, terminatedTips. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read tips, netAdded. Use the output convention below.

Return terminal-tip balance under binary branching. Require nonnegative whole initialTips/bifurcations and terminatedTips <= initial+bifurcations; tips = initial+bifurcations-terminated, netAdded = bifurcations-terminated.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Each bifurcation adds exactly one net tip; other branching or fusion events are omitted.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use appropriate biological observations and a complete validated model for developmental interpretation or experimental inference.
