Description
Round a supplied nonnegative probe reading to a selected quantum.
Dental records depend on surface notation, assessed and excluded denominators, missing versus observed zero, reporting quanta and recorded equipment dates. Calendar-day counts can be elapsed or inclusive, and nominal expiry comparisons do not establish sterility. Local surface fractions and source labels are not automatically validated clinical indices.
Round a supplied nonnegative probe reading to a selected quantum.
When to use this tool
Use Periodontal Probe Reading Rounding Label when you already have reading, reportingQuantum and need to round a supplied nonnegative probe reading to a selected quantum.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter reading, reportingQuantum. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read reportedReading, signedAdjustment. Use the output convention below.
Require reading>=0 and reportingQuantum positive/finite; reported=Math.round(reading/quantum)*quantum, adjustment=reported-reading.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| reading | Reading | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| reportingQuantum | Positive rounding increment; Math.round rounds nonnegative half ties upward, subject to binary representation. | Required. Finite number; strictly above 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| reportedReading | Reported Reading | Required. Finite number. |
| signedAdjustment | Signed Adjustment | Required. Finite number. |

- Nonnegative half ties round upward, subject to binary arithmetic. No probe reading, reporting standard, threshold or clinical interpretation is selected.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use original chart, observation and reprocessing records with the complete scoring or controlled workflow. Keep denominator, missingness and date conventions explicit; local arithmetic does not determine oral-health status, appropriate recall intervals or readiness for care.
