Description
Round supplied earned credit down to a selected quantum.
Educational records need explicit score maxima, optional-criterion policy, timing allowances, choice positions and group capacities. Optional points and their maxima must use the same inclusion rule. Nominal seat counts and supplied extension fractions do not establish actual accessibility, attendance, appropriate support or assessment fairness.
Round supplied earned credit down to a selected quantum.
When to use this tool
Use Assessment Item Partial Credit Quantum when you already have earnedPoints, maximumPoints, creditQuantum and need to round supplied earned credit down to a selected quantum.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter earnedPoints, maximumPoints, creditQuantum. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read quantizedPoints, quantizedFraction. Use the output convention below.
Require maximumPoints>0, earnedPoints within maximum and creditQuantum>0; quantized=floor(earned/quantum)*quantum, fraction=quantized/maximum.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| earnedPoints | Earned Points | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| maximumPoints | Maximum Points | Required. Finite number; strictly above 0. |
| creditQuantum | Credit Quantum | Required. Finite number; strictly above 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| quantizedPoints | floor(earnedPoints/creditQuantum)*creditQuantum; binary arithmetic can affect exact multiples. | Required. Finite number. |
| quantizedFraction | Quantized Fraction | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- A quantum larger than earned points returns zero. Binary arithmetic can affect exact-boundary quotients; no rubric or suitable rounding policy is selected.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Review the complete rubric, course and accommodation policy, schedule and actual classroom arrangement for operational decisions. Work with the full records when scoring, grouping or access matters beyond one supplied count, tag comparison or time allowance.
