Description
Return household equivalence scale and adjusted income.
Demographic support and equivalence ratios depend on age cutoffs, participation and supplied household or consumer weights. Weighted population quantities describe the chosen accounting basis rather than actual needs or social value.
Return household equivalence scale and adjusted income.
When to use this tool
Use Household Scale Economy Caller Exponent when checking a supplied demographic classification or weighting convention.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter income, members, exponent. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read equivalenceScale, equivalizedIncome. Use the output convention below.
Return household equivalence scale and adjusted income. Require positive whole members and exponent >= 0; scale = members^exponent and equivalizedIncome = income/scale.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| income | Income | Required. Finite number. |
| members | Members | Required. Safe integer; minimum 1. |
| exponent | Exponent | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| equivalenceScale | Equivalence Scale | Required. Finite number. |
| equivalizedIncome | Equivalized Income | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Exponent is caller-supplied, not an official scale or estimate of household needs.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use documented population definitions and appropriate empirical weights for complete demographic or household analysis.
