Household Equivalence Weight Gap Tool

Sum explicit household equivalence weights; no equivalence scale is chosen.

Description

Compare summed member equivalence weights with a reference.

Demographic support and equivalence ratios depend on age cutoffs, participation and supplied household or consumer weights. Weighted population quantities describe the chosen accounting basis rather than actual needs or social value.

Compare summed member equivalence weights with a reference.

When to use this tool

Use Household Equivalence Weight Gap when checking a supplied demographic classification or weighting convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter memberWeights, referenceHouseholdWeight. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read equivalentMembers, weightGap. Use the output convention below.

Compare summed member equivalence weights with a reference. Require nonnegative memberWeights/referenceHouseholdWeight; equivalentMembers is the sum and weightGap subtracts reference.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Weights may be fractional; no household composition, scale validity or benefit eligibility is inferred.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use documented population definitions and appropriate empirical weights for complete demographic or household analysis.
