Dependency Age Cutoff Boundary Pair Tool

Caller-defined lower-inclusive, upper-exclusive working-age band, without a jurisdictional age definition.

Description

Classify ages into supplied dependency bands.

Demographic support and equivalence ratios depend on age cutoffs, participation and supplied household or consumer weights. Weighted population quantities describe the chosen accounting basis rather than actual needs or social value.

Classify ages into supplied dependency bands.

When to use this tool

Use Dependency Age Cutoff Boundary Pair when checking a supplied demographic classification or weighting convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter ages, lowerWorkingAge, upperWorkingAge. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read young, working, older, ratio. Use the output convention below.

Classify ages into supplied dependency bands. Require whole nonnegative lowerWorkingAge, a strictly larger whole upperWorkingAge and nonnegative ages; working includes lower and excludes upper; require at least one working record before forming (young+older)/working.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Ages may be fractional; these bands are supplied, not universal working-age or dependency definitions.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use documented population definitions and appropriate empirical weights for complete demographic or household analysis.
