Dependency Age Band Membership

Apply an explicit half-open dependency age band without selecting a jurisdiction’s demographic convention.

Loading tool…

Description

Check a supplied age against a lower-inclusive, upper-exclusive band.

Demographic economic terms depend on age-window boundaries, population scope, household equivalence units and supplied fiscal assumptions. A worker-share change is not an estimated demographic dividend, and endpoint survivors times duration differ from integrated life-table person-years. Local pension or subsidy calculations do not determine actual eligibility or entitlement.

Check a supplied age against a lower-inclusive, upper-exclusive band.

When to use this tool

Use Dependency Age Band Membership when you already have ageYears, lowerAge, upperAgeExclusive and need to check a supplied age against a lower-inclusive, upper-exclusive band.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter ageYears, lowerAge, upperAgeExclusive. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read inSuppliedBand. Inspect inSuppliedBand before interpreting the associated values.

Require age/lowerAge>=0 and upperAgeExclusive>lowerAge; return age>=lower && age<upper.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
ageYearsAge YearsRequired. Finite number; minimum 0.
lowerAgeLower AgeRequired. Finite number; minimum 0.
upperAgeExclusiveStrict upper age boundary; fractional ages are accepted.Required. Finite number.
Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape

Limitations and assumptions

  • Fractional ages are accepted. No canonical dependency band, legal age, cohort membership or demographic dependency ratio is selected.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use complete population, cohort, labor and fiscal records with the chosen equivalence and exposure definitions. Review applicable benefit rules and estimate the appropriate model for policy analysis; one supplied allocation or accounting ratio does not establish behavior or economic effects.
